A 1-year-old has died after a father allegedly abducted his three children.
According to a statement released by the Virginia Beach Police Department onThursday, Aug. 15, police received a report at around 8:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, about a stabbing in Virginia Beach, Va.
At the scene, police discovered “two female victims — one adult and one juvenile — both suffering from multiple stab wounds.”
The two stabbing victims were taken to local hospitals and have been described as being in stable condition.
“The preliminary investigation indicates this incident is domestic-related,” the statement continued, adding that Dana Plummer — a 36-year-old man from Virginia Beach — “is believed to have stabbed both victims before fleeing the scene with his children: two male juveniles ages 7 and 5, and one female 1 year of age.”
After an Amber Alert was issued, a citizen recognized the vehicle Plummer was driving and alerted the authorities. Per the statement, the suspect then allegedly drove through a traffic stop set up by the police, and soon lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in a crash.
Plummer was arrested at the scene. The 1-year-old was taken to the hospital, however, “she later succumbed to her injuries.”
Plummer has been charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, three counts of parental abduction, four counts of contributing to delinquency of a minor and domestic assault.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones who are grieving this morning,” Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in the release. “This is an unimaginable tragedy, and on behalf of the VBPD, I extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this loss.”
