A 6.1 magnitude quake shakes Southern Japan Island – Japan Meteorological Agency

A magnitude-6.1 earthquake flustered Japan’s Southern Islands on Tuesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency said no tsunami warning was issued.

There were no immediate reports of fatalities or damage to property from the quake.

The seismic centre of the quake at 1:35 pm (0435 GMT) was off Yonaguni Island near Taiwan about 1,900 kilometres South-West of Tokyo, the agency reported.

The quake struck at a depth of about 30 kilometres.

In early September, a magnitude-6.7 quake rocked the Northern Island of Hokkaido, leaving 41 people dead and about 740 injured.
