Heartbreak befell the FUAM (Federal University of Agriculture) in Makurdi as the Professor of Biological Sciences from the Ibo extraction, Prof Frank Onyezili committed suicide.
New Telegraph collected that the incident which occurred last weekend, tossed the entire university community into a state of mourning.
Prof Frank Onyezili took his own life, last week Friday, by drinking poison and leaving behind a suicide note.
It was suspected that his decision to commit suicide might not be unrelated with depression and isolation after wife and children left him and moved out of the country.
Chief Mrs. Rosemary Waku, Director of Protocol and Information of the university confirmed the misfortune to newsmen on phone.
‘Professor Onyezili committed suicide on Friday last week at FUAM’, Mrs. Waku said.
She added that the late professor left a suicide note behind, but she cannot expose the content of the note to journalists for the reason that she was to have access to the note.
DSP Moses Yamu, Police spokesman told reporters that he was yet to get the detail of the incident from the Divisional Office.
When newsmen visited the house of the deceased in the campus of the university, sympathisers mostly academicians were seen signing the condolence register.
They described him as a perfect nobleman and questioned why he took the option of killing himself.
