The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) encourages health workers to be careful when attending to TB patients in order to prevent transmission.
The Research Manager, IHVN, Dr. Okpokoro Evaezi, said this at the sensitization training of the health workers in Abuja.
Evaezi explained that the purpose of the training is to educate health workers and provide guidance on the prevention of TB.
He opined, that TB is a chronic infection that is caused mycobacterium tuberculosis that affects the lungs and other lungs in the body.
He said, “The training is part of activities for a TB infection control study titled ‘Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection rates among healthcare workers in HIV clinics in Nigeria.
“In addition, it will be a platform for strengthening TB infection control mechanism, we also plan on developing policies relevant for protecting this limited but crucial work force,”
The training according to Evaezi, will be held 14 health facilities in Abuja and Nasarawa State with a target of 700 health workers.
Press men discloses that the training is ahead of a research study into TB infection rates among healthcare workers.
More than 700 healthcare workers are to be sensitised under the programme.
