They are good sources of protein, vitamins, iron, niacin and zinc which when combined are balanced diets that is advised we take.

I will always borrow the quote ‘’ too much of everything is bad’’.

Eating red or processed meat daily will do you more harm than good, it could lead to possible bowel cancer.

Red meats are simply beef, lamb and mutton, veal, goat, pork and venison.

For adults, eating more than 90g of red or processed meat a day is advisable. Better reduce it 70g a day.

While for children over 5, give them a complete balanced diet including meat and other sources of protein. Remember, the quantity of food prescribed for children is dependent on their age and size.

Reasons Why You Should Limit Your Red Meat Intake

Heart Disease

Because of the high level of saturated fat in some red meats, the possibility of increasing blood cholesterol is high. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease.

There is no definite proof on its contribution to cancer, colorectal cancer.

According to National Institute of Health (AARP), in a study conducted on more than half million older Americans, realized that people who ate red processed meat constantly for 10 years, were most likely to die of cancer or heart disease early than those who did not.

A nutritional epidemiologist with the American Cancer Society, Marji McCullough PHD, “The association between consumption of red and processed meats and cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, is very consistent,”

After consistent reviews of scientific studies, expert panel of the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research concluded in 2007 that “red or processed meats are convincing or probable sources of some cancers.” Their report says evidence is convincing for a link between red meat, processed meat, and colorectal cancer, and limited but suggestive for links to lung, esophageal, stomach, pancreatic, and endometrial cancers.(WebMD)
