Idongesit Ituen, representing Itu state constituency who decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has being dismissed by Lawmakers.
Onofiok Luke, speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has received the court decision firing a state lawmaker who decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the House of Assembly has said.
In September at a federal high court in Uyo, Mr. Ituen filed a suit, to pre-empt the speaker of the assembly from proclaiming his seat vacant after his defection.
But the court, in its judgment, discharged the main suit and granted all the reliefs sought by the speaker, which comprised an order of the court limiting the speaker from further recognition of Mr. Ituen as a member of the assembly.
“Being a declarative judgment, the Honourable Speaker wishes, therefore, to state clearly that as a law-abiding citizen, a lawmaker and a lawyer, he has abide by the court order.”
“The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, was this morning served with an enrolled order conveying the judgment of the Federal High Court of Nigeria restraining him from further recognizing Hon. Idongesit Ituen as a member of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly,” the spokesperson for Mr. Luke, Kufre Okon, stated this in a statement on Thursday.
