A 33-year-old woman, Chioma Iwu, was arraigned before Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing her brother-in-law with a broken bottle on Friday.
Iwu, who resides in Lekki axis of Lagos, is charged with assault.
The Prosecutor, ASP Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on July 27 at about 6:35a.m. at the plaintiff’s residence at Flat T20, unit 3, Lekki Gardens, phase IV in Ajah axis of Lagos.
According to the Prosecutor, the complainant, Mr Nwobike Godwin, who had a disagreement with his wife, had gone to demand for some belongings and a quarrel ensued between him and the defendant.
Unuigbe alleged that the defendant then went into the room and brought out a broken bottle and gored him on his head and left hand.
He said, the offence committed is punishable under Section 246 (a) of the Criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
According to Newsmen reports, the Section 246 (a) stipulates a seven-year jail term for the offence of assault occasioning grievous harm.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against her.
Chief Magistrate Peter Ojo, in his judgement, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ojo ordered that the sureties must be profitably employed with an evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter until December 19 for trial.
