Kat Von D is unfolding about her modification to motherhood.

On Wednesday, the celebrity tattoo sketcher and makeup expert — who welcomed her first child, baby Leafar Von D Reyes last month — exposed that breastfeeding her baby didn’t initially go as planned.

“During the first two days of Leafar’s life, his blood sugar count had been low, and as much as I had committed myself to strictly breastfeed, my milk hadn’t come in yet,” she began the sincere IG post.

“The pediatrician suggested asking around to see if any friends might have a bit of extra milk they could donate – and if not, I’d have to consider supplementing with formula – something we personally did not want to do,” Von D, age36, continued.

The makeup artiste went on to clarify that she called her midwife, Sara Howard, in faiths that she would know someone who would be ready to donate some of their breastmilk.

Adding to sharing the milk, Von D also demanded that the person be on a strict plant-based diet, as it was “crucial” to her and her husband Leafar Seyer (birth name: Rafael Reyes).

Finally, Von D got introduced to Morgan Campbell, who she said came to her aid “without question.”

“…without even knowing me, and without question, [she] stepped up and donated a few ounces to us in the middle of the night,” the tattoo artist writes. “Needless to say, Leafar’s levels boosted, and we are now happily breastfeeding at home.”

Now that her milk has come in, Von D shared a clip of her son thankfully breastfeeding. She concluded the post by thanking Campbell for getting her and her husband “through those rough nights.”

During the first two days of Leafar’s life, his blood sugar count had been low, and as much as I had committed myself to strictly breastfeed, my milk hadn’t come in yet. The pediatrician suggested asking around to see if any friends might have a bit of extra milk they could donate – and if not, I’d have to consider supplementing with formula – something we personally did not want to do. I called my beloved midwife, @losangelesmidwife to see if she knew anyone who might be willing to share a bit of their breastmilk who was on a plant-based diet, as that was crucial to us, and she quickly connected me with @mattersofmotherhood who, without even knowing me, and without question, stepped up and donated a few ounces to us in the middle of the night. Needless to say, Leafar’s levels boosted, and we are now happily breastfeeding at home. Can’t thank @mattersofmotherhood enough for getting us through those rough nights with your donation. This is true community. True sisterhood. True kindness. And I can’t wait to pay it forward one day soon. 🖤 ***UPDATE: just to address a few misconceptions about my caption. First, I’m not shaming anyone who chooses to use formula. Just like I would never shame anyone for the food they ate or anything for that matter. So, please don’t shame me for sharing our personal approach to nursing. Second, I did not starve my baby for his first two days of life. I’m not mad at ya’all who attacked me about it -because clearly you may not be familiar with how breast feeding works and that’s ok! I wasn’t either until I got pregnant! 🙂 but for the first 2.5 days my breasts were producing colostrum (not the same thing as milk) and it’s absolutely normal for mom’s milk not to come in until day 5 sometimes. With that being said, my little one just needed to get through one night’s worth of feedings with supplemented donors milk. And I’m happy to report my milk came in shortly after that! So thanks for all the love and support everyone! Let’s keep it positive! ***

On Sunday, the makeup artist publicized that her son had arrived with a pic of Seyer, age43, holding the baby boy in his arms.

“Meet our beautiful baby boy, Leafar Von D Reyes,” Von D wrote on IG together with the shot of the proud dad. “Thank you to all our beloved friends+family, fans+followers for your patience in us announcing his long awaited arrival!”

disclosing about her new chapter as mom to Leafar, Von D added, “To be honest, my husband @prayers and I want to take the next 40 days [the 4th trimester] to focus on the baby and our amazing relationship transitioning into amazing parenthood — so, please excuse us if we’re not on here as much for a little while.”

She resolved the caption, “Just know we love you all and thank you for all the words of love+support!”

Von D opened in June on IG about her child-care plans — namely; her plans to have “a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula” and “raising a vegan child, without vaccinations.”

“This is my body. This is our child. And this is our pregnancy journey,” she wrote along with a baby bump photo. “I already know what it’s like to make life choices that are not the same as the majority. So your negative comments are not going [to] influence my choices — actual research and educating myself will, which I am diligently doing.”
