A car wash attendant identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, on Wednesday was sentenced to one year imprisonment for stealing a phone and other property worth N285,000 from two customers’ cars.
Presiding Magistrate I. A. Idowu of the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sentenced Ibrahim, 32, following his guilty plea to two counts charge of stealing.
Magistrate Idowu, after listening to the review of the facts presented by the prosecutor, Friday Mameh, sentenced Ibrahim to six months imprisonment on each count.
She held that the sentence, which was without the option of fine, would commence from the date of arraignment and would run sequentially.
Mameh had earlier told the court that Ibrahim committed the crimes on November 20, 2018, around 7:00AM at Block 9 Car Park, Obalende Police Barracks, Lagos.
He said the convict stole a laptop charger valued at N100,000 and the sum of N100,000 kept inside a Lexus SUV with plate number RD 12 AB, brought by one Goddy Osuji, for the convict to wash.
He further briefed the court that the convict also stole a Samsung mobile phone valued at N85,000, belonging to another complainant, one Mike Onaise.
According to the prosecution counsel, the convict stole the items while he was paid to wash the cars.
He said the offences breached Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
