3 Step Action Plan To Fix Depression & Instantly Improve your Mood
=================================
Today I’m going to speak about a very important topic and that has to do with your mood and depression. Especially since there’s been a dramatic increase in “negative feelings” over the past 2 years.
I’ll quickly discuss the potential causes and more importantly, my 3 step action plan at the very end.
Either way, please know that whatever you’re feeling and for however long, you’re NOT alone.
That “this too shall pass”
It is FOR SURE fixable. You’ll get through it.
However, you MUST take action. Don’t just sit around hoping things will magically fix itself.
Listen to everything I’m saying today and then take action on it and I’ve listed more details below this video in the description area.
And please also leave your questions below in the comments section.
So, let’s get started with a recent question that I received:
“Hi Dr. Sam – I have a very personal question to ask you, so please don’t use my name. I have been feeling very down and depressed this past year… or maybe even longer. I don’t know if it’s because of life, or COVID or some other stress. I just feel very alone. I don’t want to interact with people and when I do, I put on a fake smile.
What can I do to improve my mood? Do I have some chemical or hormonal imbalance? I remember a few years ago my girlfriend was taking an antidepressant, should I also take one? Is there something natural I can take?
What’s the cause of depression anyway?
I was doing research on google about this and it seems more and more people feel similarly these days. Thanks doc, I’m feeling very hopeless and I’d love your feedback and guidance.”
So, to start off… There are lots of reasons one can feel “blah” or “down” or “sad” or the extreme being, “depressed”.
Of course, there are lots of EXTERNAL factors — a break up, money problems, losing a job, being sick, diet, exercise, sunlight, sex and so forth.
Personally, I think a major cause is not having a purpose in life. Not having a reason to get up in the morning and doing something OUTSIDE of yourself. Focusing on helping others, rather than “what’s wrong with my life”
The more you focus on yourself, the more you can feel depressed – this I promise.
And then, there are INTERNAL reasons — genetics being one of them. For example, 50% of happiness is attributed to genetics. Some people are just happy-go-lucky people, laughing through life.
I’m definitely NOT one of those people. My brain is always thinking and it’s hard for me to be “in the moment” and enjoy it.
As I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten easier for me to be “in the moment”- but, it’s just not part of genetics. Never has been, even as a child.
Genetics aside, we then have hormonal imbalances.
For example, women feel more depressed than men because they have lots of different female hormones that can become imbalanced … estrogens, progesterone, prolactin, etc..
In fact, over 25% of women over the age of 60 — hence, post menopausal — are taking antidepressants and that has to do with low levels of female hormones, as well as even male hormones.
For example, antidepressants work with serotonin. Hence, they are called SSRI – selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
Now, what’s interesting is that so much serotonin is made in your gut.
So, for all of you who have poor gut bacteria because you
take antibiotics
consume artificial sweeteners
are addicted to sugars
eat lots of processed foods
Don’t consume enough pre and probiotics
and so on and so forth
