41 People Killed in Mexico Bus Crash After It Hits Truck and Bursts into Flames: Reports

A collision between a bus and a truck has killed 41 people in Mexico, according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, Feb. 8, the government in the state of Tabasco said, per Reuters and BBC. 

According to Reuters, citing local authorities, 38 passengers on the bus died, along with two of the drivers and the driver of the truck. The bus was carrying 48 people.

The bus was engulfed in flames following the incident, with photos showing the vehicle, which was traveling from Cancun to Tabasco, completely burned out. 

Tributes left at the scene of the incident.

In a post on Facebook, bus operator Tour’s Acosta said the incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. local time and involved a “trailer.”

“We have lost very dear colleagues, as well as clients and friends, we thank you for your understanding and solidarity at this very difficult time,” the operator added. 

The BBC reported that Tour’s Acosta said it was “profoundly sorry about what happened” and that the bus had been traveling within speed limits when the collision happened.

According to the outlet and Reuters, the local government said recovery work is continuing, including efforts to identify those killed. 

In a statement on X, local council Palacio Municipal de Comalcalco called the incident a “tragic accident” and said it will support the transfer of the bodies of the victims.
