Liverpool and Egypt star Mohammed Salah is set to miss out on the Tokyo Olympics after Liverpool won the club vs country row.

Egypt wanted their star forward, 29, to take part in the Games and play in the opening group match against Spain on July 22 in Sapporo but new reports indicate Salah will remain with his club for pre-season rather than travel to Japan for the three-week event.

Egyptian FA chiefs are unhappy with the decision by Liverpool but understand they will need him again at the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next January and February in Cameroon.

Jurgen Klopp will want Salah available at the beginning of the season as the team look to mount a title challenge and would not mind missing him next year January as long as he plays at the beginning of this season for Liverpool.

Salah scored 22 Premier League last season as Liverpool qualified for next season’s Champions League on the last day of the Covid-hit campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men open up their 2021-22 season with a trip to Norwich on August 14.
