A rowdy session was witnessed at the House of Representatives on Thursday July 15, over the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

This ensued after Chinyere Igwe, a lawmaker from Rivers state staged a protest just afte the House of Representatives commenced sitting for the day.

Igwe who chanted that “the PIB report is a fraud”, was protesting the adoption of 3 percent as host community trust fund in the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) by the conference committee set up by both the lower chamber and the senate.

The house had earlier voted 5% for host communities, while the Senate passed 3% in the bill which will govern the operations of the oil industry in Nigeria.

After repeated efforts to calm the agitated members failed, House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila called for an executive session at about 12:13 pm.
