A pharmacist has warned consumers to be watchful after a number of medicinal ointments bought from pharmacies turned out to be different expired products repackaged as the real deal.
She peeled off the outer wrap on the tube of an ointment to find that what is beneath is a different ointment, one that shouldn’t be applied on the face. Yet, it was disguised as an acne cream and sold in pharmacies.
To make matters worse, the product had expired as the expiration date beneath revealed when the outer packaging was peeled off, yet they printed a new expiry date on the new package to deceive customers.
The pharmacist lamented that regulatory bodies have refused to do anything about it after a complaint was lodged, so she told Nigerians it’s up to them to protect themselves by being watchful.
People who have mistakenly bought tubes of ointment only to discover a different expiry date beneath also shared photos.
Some said the ointment they bought showed 2023 as the expiry date but when they scratched the surface of the ointment, the found a different expiry date beneath, showing it had expired.

One filmed how her chocolate wrap showed a different expiry date on the top wrap but when the wrap was peeled, another expiry date that had passed was seen.
