56-year-old Nigerian national arrested with drugs worth over N400m in India

The Anti-Narcotic Cell Police Station of Goa Police in India has arrested a 56-year-old Nigerian national during a narcotics raid in Arpora, Bardez, Panaji.  

The accused, identified as Innocent Okezuonu Anaemem, was found in possession of drugs valued at Rs. 74 lakh in the international market, the police said in a statement on Sunday, February 25, 2024. 

Anaemem, who was residing in Arpora, was arrested during a raid conducted at the weekend based on reliable information. 

The seized contraband includes 480 grams of cocaine worth Rs. 72 lakhs, 15 grams of Ecstasy powder valued at Rs. 1.50 lakhs, and 250 grams of Charas worth Rs. 1.25 lakhs.

The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) meticulously monitored the accused’s activities for nearly a week, employing both human intelligence and technical surveillance. 

The operation culminated in the arrest of the Nigerian national, along with the confiscation of drugs, some cash, and a two-wheeler scooter used for the illicit trade.

The police disclosed that the accused had three cases registered against him in Goa, with pending trials before the respective courts. 

In a notable incident in 2013, Anaemem was arrested in the infamous National Highway Blockade case at “O” Coqueiro junction, Porvorim. 

Additionally, he faced charges of overstaying without legal documents and assaulting a detention centre employee during a separate case. 

The raid, led by PSI Pravin Shimepurushkar and a team of police officers, operated under the supervision of DYSP ANC Shri Nerlon Albuquerque and SP ANC Shri Bossuet Silva.

Investigation into the matter is ongoing under the guidance of PSI Priyanka Garodi of ANC PS.
