Police confirm killing of couple in Abuja home, begin investigation

The Police in Abuja on Wednesday confirmed that an 80-year-old man, identified as Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, were found dead in their apartment at Apo area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, after being attacked by unknown assailants on Monday 1st of April 2024.

The tragic incident, according to sources, occurred at the Apo Legislative Quarters in the Apo district of the FCT at about 11pm.

The source said the elderly couple, with Adebola said to be confined to a wheel chair, had their throats slit by the assailants using a dagger.

The source disclosed that one of the apartment’s windows was forcibly opened, and the couple’s lifeless bodies were found in a pool of blood.

The brutal killing was said to have been discovered when the son of the victims, unable to reach his parents by phone, sought assistance from a neighbour to check on them.

Upon arrival and after knocking severally, the neighbour with permission of the victim’s son, had to break into the house, revealing the gruesome scene.

When contacted for comments, FCT Police spokesman, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident pointing out that the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, personally visited the crime scene and ordered a thorough investigation.

SP Adeh said that following the CP’s directive, detectives of the the FCT Police Command have initiated a discreet investigation into the matter.

She said the command will make updates on the investigation available to the public through the media
