A groom has upset his new sister-in-law after cropping her out of his wedding photos.

The man, 28, explained the situation in a recent post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, writing that the drama first began during the wedding photo shoot itself. He recalled that his sister-in-law, who served as one of his wife’s bridesmaids, complained about the “sunny weather and how her dress was ‘absorbing heat’ ” while the wedding party was posing outside.

The groom then detailed that when the photos came back from the photographer three weeks after the wedding, he and the bride sent them to all of the people who were part of the shoot and informed them of their plans to post the images on social media.

“Most people thanked us for the photos, but my SIL called my wife and was very angry,” the groom wrote, explaining that his sister-in-law was not happy with her appearance in the photos. “[She then] demanded that we not use any of the photos with her in them.”

“My wife tried to reason with her, saying she looks just as pretty as everyone else but SIL did not want to hear it. She reiterated that if we used any photo of her on social media that she would never speak to us again,” he continued, adding: “My wife was really hurt by her sister’s outburst and I was very bothered that she thought she could tell us what to do with our special moment.”

After the unpleasant back and forth, the groom took matters into his own hands. “I decided that if she had such a problem, she didn’t need to be in the photos. I cropped her out and posted those versions to social media,” he wrote in his Reddit post, explaining, “I thought it would be fine and it was easy since she was at the edge anyway.”

However, his photo editing did not go down well with his sister-in-law. “She then called me even angrier than before and accused me of trying to ‘erase her from the memory of the wedding,’ ” the groom continued. “I told her I only did it to accommodate her wishes while also getting to use our own wedding photos.”

After sharing that his sister-in-law hasn’t spoken to him and his wife in a week and that his wife’s parents’ are “mad” that they upset the sister-in-law, the groom asked fellow Redditors to weigh in on the family tiff.

“While my wife is on my side, she thinks I could have been more mature about it. I don’t think I did anything wrong and accommodated her already unreasonable request. Am I the a——?” he concluded his post.

The majority of commenters sided with the groom, agreeing that his decision to crop his sister-in-law out of the wedding photos was not only justified but what the sister-in-law requested.

“You abided by your SiL’s wishes. None of the pictures from your wedding posted to social media include her,” one person wrote, adding, “There is no pleasing some people.”

Another person pointed out: “She would have been in all the photos with the entire wedding party. That means if you only used photos that didn’t include her (without cropping her out) ,you wouldn’t have any pictures of your wife’s other bridesmaids or any of the entire wedding party. That is an unreasonable thing to ask.

“Maybe you could have been more mature about it, as your wife says, but you didn’t have to be,” someone else chimed in. “You did nothing wrong here. SIL does not understand boundaries or respect. Cropping her out was and is a reasonable solution.”

Many commenters noted that the groom and his wife are entitled to make their own decisions about their wedding photos.

“Your SIL needs to be firmly reminded your wedding day is about YOU AND YOUR WIFE,” a Redditor argued. “You included her in that day and she’s still not happy. You’re under no obligation to never use or post the photos of your special day just because she’s unhappy with how she looked in those photos. She’s being absolutely ridiculous.”
