Investment Banker, 28, Dies in ‘Unexplained Death’ in Texas, Police Investigating: Reports

Police in Texas are investigating after a 28-year-old investment banker died earlier this week, according to a report.

On Monday, Jan. 27, Carter Anthony McIntosh died at 11:10 a.m. local time, with his place of death being listed as 3030 Hester Avenue in Dallas, which is the Bell Knox District apartment block, according to online records from the Dallas County Medical Examiner seen by us.

McIntosh was an investment banker at Jefferies Financial Group’s Dallas office, per Business Insider. The investment bank confirmed the employee’s death in a memo to staff on Tuesday, Jan. 28, according to Bloomberg.

The late banker’s LinkedIn page states that he started working at Jefferies in September 2023 as an investment banking associate. Business Insider reported that McIntosh worked on the team covering technology, media and telecommunications companies.

Dallas Police Department spokesperson, Michael Dennis, told the outlet, “Based on the date, approximate time, and location, this incident is being investigated as an unexplained death.”

Jefferies CEO, Richard Handler, and the company’s president, Brian Friedman, said in a memo to staff on Tuesday, “It is with tremendous sadness that we report we learned yesterday that Carter McIntosh, one of our talented associates in Dallas, has passed away. Our most sincere condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues,” per Business Insider.

“We are in touch with Carter’s family, who know we stand ready to support them in any way we can. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and we hope that Carter’s memory is a blessing to them during this very sad time,” the message continued, per the outlet.

“And for all of you who knew Carter or who are impacted by his untimely passing, please remember that we have resources available to support you in your time of need,” the memo continued. “We know from experience that these resources both provide solace and help you process the natural grief we all feel. To receive access to one-on-one confidential support with a mental health counselor, please reach out to our wellness partners.”

Before working at Jefferies, McIntosh was an investment banking analyst at Moelis & Company from April 2021 until June 2023, while he also worked in New York as an equity research analyst for Goldman Sachs from January 2020 until April 2021, per his LinkedIn page.

Dallas Police, Dallas County Health and Human Services, Jefferies and the company’s CEO Richard Handler did not immediately respond when contacted by us.
