The new film, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, hits theaters in July
The dino damage is just getting started for Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey in Jurassic World Rebirth.
The two actors star alongside Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend and more in the latest installment in the Jurassic film franchise, which first kicked off more than 30 years ago with Jurassic Park.
In the first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action flick, which dropped Wednesday, Feb. 5, Johansson, 40, and Wicked star Bailey, 36, fight to survive the most dangerous dinosaurs.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Jurassic World Rebirth will also star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Luna Blaise, along with Johansson, Bailey and two-time Oscar-winner Ali, 50.
The film is written by David Koepp, who also penned the screenplay for the original 1993 Steven Spielberg film, based on Michael Crichton’s novel, and the 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
According to the official movie description, Jurassic World Rebirth takes place five years after the events of 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.
The film follows skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Johansson) as she leads a team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material of the world’s three largest dinosaurs.
En route to the “isolated equatorial environment” where the dinosaurs live, Zora’s “operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”
Back in June, Johansson told ComicBook.comshe has been wanting to join the Jurassic franchise for years.
“I’m such an enormous fan of the franchise and huge nerd for it. I’m just like, I can’t even — I’m pinching myself,” said the Oscar nominee, while promoting Fly Me to the Moon.
“I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over 10 years. I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it,” the Black Widow star joked. “The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can’t believe it.”
Johansson also called the latest script “so incredible.”
“I’m an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was, like, life-changing,” she added. “I cannot express how excited I am.”
