Former England star Peter Crouch, has joked he has secured a Nigerian passport so as to join the coaching staff of Harry Redknapp, who is being rumored to be a surprise replacement of Gernot Rohr as the Super Eagles coach.
A source from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports told the UK Star: “The feeling is Harry Redknapp will be coming to manage Nigeria soon.’’
The news came just days after Gernot Rohr confirmed that he had been offered a new contract to remain the head coach of the Super Eagles for the next two years and a half. Although, the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to confirm or deny the new deal.
Redknapp, 73, managed Crouch while he coached Tottenham, and when rumors started flying on Tuesday that Redknapp could take over the Eagles, fans on social media jokingly suggested that he could bring along his favourite players like Crouch, Jermaine Defoe and Niko Kranjcar to Nigeria as part of his coaching team.
Crouch, who scored 22 times in 42 appearances for England, now aged 39, joined in on the online jokes.
Crouch tweeted: “So excited to get my Nigerian passport through today #gosupereagles”
