The Lagos State Police has arrested a passenger who went viral last Sunday on social media, after he was seen on camera assaulting a Police Woman Martina Onyeacho, who was controlling traffic at Shibiri bus stop, Ilemba Hausa, Lagos.
The passenger identified as Yemi Aiyeni, 32 year old, was apprehended by the police following the assault on the Police woman as internet users called for his arrest after the video went viral
According to PUNCH, The Nigerian police spokesperson , SP Bala Elkana, said, that the Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call that a female police officer, Inspector Martina Onyeacho, on traffic control at Shibiri bus stop is in distress. A patrol team was promptly deployed to the scene to rescue her.
The 32 year old , Yemi Ayeni, was arrested while the policewoman was quickly taken to a hospital for treatment. Onyeacho sustained various degrees of injuries from beating she received from the suspect
According to eyewitness, Yemi who presented himself as a soldier in a commercial bus that obstructed traffic flow on the busy road, was angered by the order issued by the traffic policewoman to the driver to move his vehicle away from the main road to the pave way for free flow of traffic.
Yemi confessed that he had been posing as a soldier since he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army Depot Zaria in 2002 on mental health grounds after spending four months in training. Ayeni also stated that he regrets his actions as he appeals to the Federal government and the Police.
