Eight regions where coronavirus deaths on rise as North West worst hit

Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) this morning showed that in the week to September 25 there were 234 coronavirus deaths across the UK – 76 more than a week earlier

Data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that nearly one in 20 deaths in the North West is linked to the virus.

And figures released this morning show that in eight of nine English regions, Covid-19 deaths increased in the week to September 25.

Since the start of the pandemic 50,277 death certificates have mentioned coronavirus in England and 2,592 in Wales.

It was the third week in a row that coronavirus deaths increased across the UK – with 203 in England, 12 in Wales, 10 in Scotland and nine in Northern Ireland – a total of 234.

This is 76 higher than the previous week.
