Nottingham, Exeter and Sheffield are suffering some of the highest rates of new coronavirus infections in England, however none of the cities are subject to local lockdowns
The top three cities on the brink of local lockdowns have been revealed after the UK’s biggest jump in Covid-19 deaths since July.
Nottingham has the highest rate of new cases in England, according to bombshell statistics covering the latest seven-day period.
Some 2,532 fresh infections were recorded in the seven days to October 6 – the equivalent of 760.6 cases per 100,000 people.
A local lockdown has yet to be imposed on the city, despite growing calls for the Government to take action.
Exeter and Sheffield are also not subject to local lockdowns, even though they have recorded some of the highest rates of new cases in the country, according to the Public Health England figures.
However, this could all change next week as anywhere with over 100 cases per 100,000 people may face stricter measures when the new three-tier lockdown system is announced.
