Are we about to dig out the thermals, gloves and even sledges? Snow is expected to fall in places from next weekend – but first we’re bracing for winds of up to 70mph heading our way

Half-term could turn into a weather write-off thanks to heavy rain and strong winds forecast across the UK.

Downpours, said to be the remnants of Hurricane Epsilon, are due to hit UK shores by Wednesday – and we may even see some snow next weekend.

But the new week begins brightly after a very soggy weekend.

Sunshine is expected in the South East and South West on Monday, while rain continues further north.

Brits are bracing themselves – winds of up to 70mph are then heading our way.

Wind and rain will turn to sleet and snow soon, according to the Met Office, who are monitoring conditions in Scandinavia that may provoke wintry conditions from early November.

It’s going to be a very mixed week with the remnants of Hurricane Epsilon still loitering
