The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge praised frontline NHS workers for their “humility and compassion” shown during the coronavirus crisis, presenting them with a special award

NHS heroes who have faced the coronavirus crisis head-on have been given a Pride of Britain award presented by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The royal couple praised them for their “humility and compassion” while working during the pandemic.

William and Kate paid tribute to all health workers who have put their “lives on the line to help others” following the outbreak.

The couple met six representatives of the NHS last week to present them with the special recognition award at one of Britain’s oldest hospitals, St Bartholomew’s in the City of London.

They were introduced by Good Morning Britain co-host Kate Garraway, whose husband Derek Draper is seriously ill in hospital after contracting Covid-19 in March.
