Joyful Democrats danced in the streets across the US as President Donald Trump fails to accept that he has lost the presidential election
Joe Biden called for this ‘grim era of demonisation to begin to end’ in a soaring victory speech last night.
The President-elect offered an olive branch to supporters of Donald Trump as he prepared to heal a nation racked by division and turmoil.
Speaking in Wilmington, Delaware, after being introduced by his running mate and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, he said: “For all those of you who voted for President Trump, I understand the disappointment tonight. I’ve lost a couple of times myself.
“But now let’s give each other a chance.
“It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again.”
Jubilant Democrats (and some disillusioned Republicans) took to the streets across the USA after Mr Biden sealed the race with electoral college wins in Pennsylvania and Nevada.
Meanwhile Donald Trump has continued his furious, fact-lite tirade in his first tweet since his election loss was sealed.
