Afronation won’t refund fans who purchased tickets for their Portugal concert which was slated for July 2020, but just got postponed to July 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to a statement released by the company, ticket buyers will not be liable to get a refund, which they claimed was due to the refund policy of the country Portugal where the concert is billed to hold.

In March, Afronation succumbed to pressures from fans who had wanted to know their fates after many other major events across the world were being cancelled.

In their response at the time, Afronation stated that the situation was out of their control.

The statement read:

“We’re still hoping and praying for a positive outcome. It is important to be honest and make progress together.”

“This is an upsetting time that we all find ourselves in,” the statement continues. “Unfortunately, we cannot give you answers to things that are out of our control.”

But in a new statement released by the event company, Afronation will not refund their fans as the concert has been postponed to July 2021.

The statement on their website partly reads:

According to the new Portuguese legal regime provided by the Decree-Law DL 10I/2020, your ticket will be automatically transferred to the new date and you need to take no further action for this. Should you not be able to attend in 2021, you are entitled to resell your ticket. Afro Nation will delay putting any tickets on sale until September in order to give ticket holders as much time as possible to resell tickets.

Along with many other countries, the Portuguese Government has passed many emergency laws to protect the survival of the industries that make up its economy whilst still protecting the rights of the consumer.

These laws and measures have been put in place in the interest of protecting the many thousands of people who rely on live events, including but not limited to the artists, venues, festivals, stage builders, technical and production teams, suppliers, bar staff, security, hotels, restaurants, and in general the thousands of people involved in the industry, including the fans.

Following this advice, Afro Nation will be postponed to the new date of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd July 2021 and to this end, and in line with Afro Nation’s ticketing T&C’s we will not be issuing refunds.
