Al Roker’s daughter Leila Roker is engaged!
Leila, a freelance journalist, shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, March 2, along with a carousel of photos from the engagement, which took place at a restaurant in Venice, Italy
“8 years ago, I moved to Paris 🇫🇷, 7 years ago I met my person and best friend 💖, and 2 days ago, that person took me on the most amazing surprise trip to Venice 🇮🇹 to ask me to spend the rest of our lives together 💍 💕💕,” the 26-year-old captioned the post.
The American University of Paris alum shared a close-up of her pear-shaped diamond engagement ring.
Leila’s mom, ABC News journalist Deborah Roberts, commented on the post, writing: “We could not be happier and more joyful!!!! Welcome to the family Sylvain! Now let’s plan a wedding!”

Several hours later, Leila’s famous dad, 70, announced the news via his Instagram, sharing several of the same photos and writing: “Well, it is now official. @gricourt.thegreat has proposed to my little girl, @leilaroker in the romantic city of Venice. We could not be happier, and look forward to planning for these two wonderful young folks coming together.”
Leila’s fiance, Sylvain Gricourt, also shared the big news with a loving Instagram message to his followers. “Just two days ago I put a ring on her finger, and that’s the best thing I did in the last 33 years 💍❤️,” he captioned his Instagram post.
He added:” @leilaroker qu’est-ce que tu dis de passer les 33 prochaines ensemble, et toutes celles d’après?” — which translates in English to: What do you say about spending the next 33 together, and all the ones after that?
Al, Deborah and their youngest child, Nick, 22, recently traveled to France in order to spend the holidays with Leila and her then-boyfriend. They shared festive snaps from the trip to social media.
Al also got to spend what he called “bonus time” with Leila when he covered the Paris Summer Olympics in 2024. At the time, he told PEOPLE that “just being able to hang out with her,” was the biggest treat of the games.
The anchor — who in addition to Leila and Nick, is also dad to daughter Courtney, 37, whom he shared with his late ex-wife Alice Bell — went on to say: “When you raise your kids, it’s nice to see them grow up and be accomplished. My oldest [Courtney] is a chef and just had a baby and our youngest [Nick] is in college and they’re good kids. Having [Leila here in Paris] is just the frosting on [top].”
