An American tourist has been found dead in Greece after he was reported missing on Thursday, June 13.

According to CNN, the man — who hasn’t been named — was found by another tourist on Sunday, June 16 on a remote beach on Mathraki island.

The tourist, who had been reported missing by his Greek-American friend, was last seen at a cafe with two female tourists on Tuesday, June 11, added CNN. The women have reportedly since left the island.

Mathraki has an estimated population of just 100 people and is located west of the island of Corfu, per Sky News.

The president of the community of Mathraki Island told ABC News that the body of the tourist was found at 1:30 pm local time on Sunday near a beach near the old port of Mathraki Island.

According to the outlet, the late man’s Greek-American friend, who was also his host, called the police after he arrived home on Thursday and saw that the American tourist was missing with his identification and travel documents.

The host also found the house door open, the lights on and the air conditioning unit still running.

This news comes after another American tourist was reported missing in Greece amid the country’s severe heatwaves which have brought temperature of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to CNN and the BBC, Albert Calibet, 59, hasn’t been seen since he failed to return from a hike on the island of Amorgos on Tuesday, June 11.

Amorgos’ deputy mayor of tourism Popi Despotidi told CNN that the retired police officer had been traveling “to Amorgos almost every year” for the last 10 years.

“It is strange because he is not a person who walked the route for the first time,” Despotidi told international news organization Greek Reporter. “He knows Amorgos better than me.”

This came days after British TV doctor Michael Mosley was found dead on the island of Symi on Sunday, June 9, after he disappeared while going for a walk.

According to multiple reports, an initial post-mortem examination found that Mosley died of natural causes.

However, according to U.K. newspaper The Times, the coroner was unable to make a determination of his exact cause of death due to the delay in finding his body during the extreme heat.
