The Chairman, Faskari Local Government Area (LGA) Musa Ado Faskari has confirmed the killing of two worshippers observing Ramadan prayers at Mairua Community, Katsina.
Faskari, in an interview with BBC Hausa monitored by Vanguard, said the attack unfolded during Tarawih Prayers on Sunday night.
He disclosed that “the assailants stormed the home of Alhaji Lado Mairua during the prayers, and demanded that he should follow them but he refused. So, they shot him dead.”
He also disclosed that Lado’s neighbour who arrived the scene on motorcycle, on witnessing the incident, raised the alarm and was also killed by the assailants.
Faskari further confirmed that the attack tragically resulted in the abduction of Alhaji Lado Mairua’s wife and his 15-year-old daughter.
“This is reportedly the second time the his wife will be kidnapped by the bandits,” Faskari stated on the interview.
Faskari further lamented: “The situation of Faskari resident is terrible. “The bandits have set up several camps in our local government and these attacks have become almost an everyday experience for us.”
He expressed worries over the growing boldness of the bandits. “Earlier yesterday, they invaded Malalai village and killed two persons and went away with two other women,” Faskari recounted.
He further revealed that a soldier was killed around Ruwan Godiya on the same day.
The distraught chairman appealed for urgent intervention from the Federal Government.
“We are calling on the federal government to look into our plight. This situation is proving to be beyond what the state alone can handle,” he urged.
Faskari stressed that, “Unless security forces take the fight to the bandits, the attacks will continue and there will be no end to their menace. There’s an urgent need to invade their hideouts and crush them.”
