Brad Pitt’s hygiene habits left a lot to be desired before he scrubbed up for a career in Hollywood, according to former roommate Jason Priestley.
Priestley appeared on the US TV show Live with Kelly and Mark earlier this week to discuss his television series Wild Cards. During the appearance, the 90210 star reminisced that he and Pitt lived together “for a brief period”.
Priestley described the domestic arrangement as three people “living in a two-bedroom apartment in a really crappy part of L.A.”, who would challenge each other to see who could go the longest without showering.
Asked what Pitt was like as a roommate, Priestley said: “Brad wasn’t as bad as my other roommate, who was an absolute disaster.
“But Brad was okay. We used to play this game, all of us, to see who could go the longest without showering. I think about it now and I’m like, ‘Dude, how disgusting. What were you thinking?'”
Asked by host Kelly Ripa who “went the longest” without bathing, Priestley quickly replied, “Brad. Always Brad.”
“I don’t think he does that anymore but, back then, he could go a long time without showering,” he added.
Priestley wrote about living with Pitt in his 2014 book Jason Priestley: A Memoir.
“We lived on ramen noodles and generic beer — the kind that came in white cans labelled BEER — and Marlboro Light cigarettes,” Priestley wrote, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
“We were all broke,” Priestley wrote of the time before he landed his role on 90210 and prior to Pitt breaking out in 1991’s Thelma and Louise.
“Our careers went in such different directions that we sort of lost touch with each other,” Priestley said in a 2017 interview.
“Brad went off and was making movies all over the world, and I was sort of stuck in one place making a TV show, and it was back in the days before computers.”
This is not the first time Pitt’s hygiene habits are making headlines.
While filming Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Pitt had some handy hygiene advice for his co-stars.
He shared that ‘’when you’re sweating and don’t have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits,” Pitt’s costar Eli Roth told People.
“After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe,'” said Roth.
“I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.'”
Roth said Pitt explained: “I got six kids. All you’ve got to do is just take them, and a couple quick wipes under the pits.
“Man, I’m getting [peed] on all day. I don’t have time to take a shower.”
“I thought that was the greatest tip,” said Roth.
