Manchester United legend, Cristiano Ronaldo will share spot kick duties with Bruno Fernandes now that he has completed his sensational move to the Old Trafford club, former player Rio Ferdinand has opined.

According to Ferdinand, who played with Ronaldo from 2003 when he came to the club as a teenager till he left in 2009, Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes will be willing to compromise with his fellow countryman on dead ball duties.

Bruno Fernandes will give up penalties but not free-kicks

United reached an agreement to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford from Juventus on Friday, for a reported €23 million (£20m/$27m) fee and now the depth in quality of the squad means the club now has four quality free kick and penalty takers in Ronaldo, Fernandes, Paul Pogba and even Juan Mata.

Ronaldo will most likely be the focal point in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack for the rest of the season, but Ferdinand has now opined that he doesn’t think Fernandes will be relegated by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bruno Fernandes will give up penalties but not free-kicks

“I think Bruno gives up penalties but doesn’t relinquish free-kicks and corners,” Ferdinand said on his FIVE Youtube channel.

“The free-kicks around the box, he’s going to be on them I think. I think his record demands that he should do that.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?gdpr=0&us_privacy=1—&client=ca-pub-2427099653703778&output=html&h=300&adk=2141876619&adf=667904977&pi=t.aa~a.1834861711~i.33~rp.4&w=360&lmt=1630405399&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=4779063894&psa=1&ad_type=text_image&format=360×300&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lindaikejisblog.com%2F2021%2F8%2Fbruno-fernandes-will-give-up-penalties-but-not-free-kicks-rio-ferdinand-says-cristiano-ronaldo-will-have-to-share-man-utd-set-pieces.html&flash=0&fwr=1&pra=3&rh=275&rw=330&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&sfro=1&wgl=1&fa=27&adsid=ChAI8Ka3iQYQyYLSsp-tmKAIEjkAFcfHgKRAxs9DG69gps5KiNSnvEWWO-eOrkSsPHTF5eHP1RGYZyLlLyR2zhsfygVB0Krs5PBefFk&uach=WyJBbmRyb2lkIiwiOSIsIiIsIkluZmluaXggWDY1MEIiLCI5Mi4wLjQ1MTUuMTE1IixbXSxudWxsLG51bGwsbnVsbF0.&tt_state=W3siaXNzdWVyT3JpZ2luIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9hdHRlc3RhdGlvbi5hbmRyb2lkLmNvbSIsInN0YXRlIjo3fV0.&dt=1630405399364&bpp=55&bdt=9291&idt=-M&shv=r20210826&mjsv=m202108300101&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D6f62d75ac2f0c0c6-2251d019a8c80035%3AT%3D1622665487%3ART%3D1622665487%3AS%3DALNI_MZ85Ep3SvTaGfc8Juk8Onrd6Hwi6g&prev_fmts=0x0&nras=2&correlator=2975810881545&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1187515804.1622665486&ga_sid=1630405396&ga_hid=398101577&ga_fc=0&u_tz=60&u_his=5&u_java=0&u_h=800&u_w=360&u_ah=800&u_aw=360&u_cd=24&u_nplug=0&u_nmime=0&adx=0&ady=2191&biw=360&bih=616&scr_x=0&scr_y=312&oid=2&pvsid=2521936503446181&pem=777&eae=0&fc=1408&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C360%2C0%2C360%2C720%2C360%2C720&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=1152&bc=31&ifi=2&uci=a!2&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=LKe6QFvL2W&p=https%3A//www.lindaikejisblog.com&dtd=645

“I think Bruno sees the bigger picture, that this guy can get us over the line to win us trophies,” he added.

“If that means my percentage of goal involvements goes down but he gets his hands on a big trophy, he’d take that all day long.”

Ronaldo will be available to make his debut in a home fixture against Newcastle on September 11, which comes four days before they kick off their latest Champions League campaign away at Young Boys.
