Coronation Street temporarily shut down production when an actor tested positive for coronavirus.

A spokesperson for ITV told Metro.co.uk: ‘We can confirm a member of the Coronation Street team has tested positive for coronavirus.

‘The protocols we have in place for such an eventuality have been implemented and the individual is now self-isolating at home.’

‘Although we do not believe anyone has been within 2m of the individual, as a precaution, the production team who were working with the individual have been notified.

‘In keeping with health and safety guidance, we have also undertaken an intensive clean of touch points in the cohort area where the individual was working and areas of the building they visited.

‘We believe the situation has been contained and filming continued on Monday’

The long-running serial drama was forced to shut down production amid the Covid-19 pandemic back in March, and episodes were subsequently rationed out in an effort to keep it on the air.

In spite of fears that the soap would go off the air for the second time in history, production did, in fact, resume and thus it remained on our screens amid the pandemic.

In order to get back in a stronger position, the weekly output remained at three instalments a week, but earlier this week, it resumed its six episode pattern, with two instalments airing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
