The senior pastor of Port Harcourt based Salvation Ministries, David Ibiyeomie, has rubbished claims that there is coronavirus in Nigeria.
The coronavirus is an ongoing pandemic which has killed over 350,000 people globally this year alone. In Nigeria, the cases of the virus is not slowing down, as 338 cases were recorded yesterday.
Many social media users are reacting to a footage of the pastor casting doubts over the existence of the deadly virus, and also comparing it to malaria.
Though the time the video was recorded could not be ascertained, David Ibiyeomie whose church has donated medical equipment to hospitals at the forefront of the fight against the virus said:
“Coronavirus is a virus that is corona. People are making noise about coronavirus. To me, it is rubbish. Did we make noise about malaria?
“Malaria kills more people in Nigeria than coronavirus. Everyday people die from malaria. In the villages, they die. So what are we talking about coronavirus, closing borders up and down?
“Nigeria doe not even have it. I don’t think Nigeria has it. Because you have heard Dokpesi say he had it but it was malaria tablet that they gave him. So if it is coronavirus, why will they give him malaria tablets?”
