Deputies rushed to the scene and found Guida dead from apparent gunshot wounds, the release says.
According to eyewitnesses, both men stopped and exited their vehicles at the intersection.
During the dispute, one of the men, later identified as Giddens, allegedly shot the other man, identified as Guida, the sheriff’s office said in the release.
Eyewitnesses reported that during the incident, the shooter allegedly fired multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle, which was occupied by his three children, ages 13, 11 and 2. The children were not injured, per the release.
Eyewitnesses provided deputies with vehicle and suspect descriptions. Those descriptions led deputies to Giddens’s house on Island Point Road, where he was arrested.
The sheriff’s office identified Guida as the victim on Monday. The identities of his children, who are the three victims of attempted first-degree murder, will not be released because of their ages.
Giddens is being held without bond and is due to appear in Catawba County District Court on Monday, Oct. 14.
It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
