Nearly one month after announcing his secret baby news, Dave Grohl is stepping out without his wedding ring.

The Foo Fighters rocker, 55, was photographed running errands in Encino, Calif. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with his ring noticeably missing from his finger. The musician wore a black T-shirt and khaki pants, and had his signature long hair tied back beneath a baseball cap.

Grohl married wife Jordyn Blum in 2003, and they are parents to daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.

In September, he revealed that he’d recently welcomed “a new baby daughter” with another woman.

“I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,” he wrote on Instagram. “We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”

A source told us at the time that the rocker retained a divorce attorney before announcing the news.

Though Grohl and Blum have not publicly addressed the state of their marriage, multiple sources told PEOPLE that Blum, co-founder of an interior design firm, has known “for a while” about the baby.

“She was shocked when she found out about the baby. Her friends are like family, and they rallied around her,” says another Blum friend.

While Grohl’s fans found the baby news to be unexpected, some in the couple’s circle weren’t entirely surprised.

“We keep reading over and over again how heartbroken everyone is because Dave was supposed to be the ‘good guy,’ the rockstar that didn’t have to do those rockstar things,” a source who knows the couple told PEOPLE. “And people are crazy about the guy, but there is a rockstar side.”

Still, the Blum source noted that she is a “great mom and very dedicated to their daughters,” and Grohl’s statement emphasized that the couple would “move forward together.”

Grohl’s outing in Encino comes about a week after the Foo Fighters pulled out of a planned festival appearance in Bridgeport, Conn. They were slated to headline the Soundside Music Festival on Sept. 29, and their slot was ultimately filled by Jack White.

“Foo Fighters will no longer be appearing at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival,” the band wrote on Instagram.
