Dorothy Njemanze said she was held last night, July 12, at the Garki police station after she was accosted by police officers while on her way to assist a victim of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV).
She explained that she showed the officers a letter of permission she had with her from AMAC and explained that her work is an essential work. However, she said they didn’t agree with her and said only health workers are essential workers. She was then taken into custody for staying in past the curfew.
The former actress who is now an activist, narrated the ordeal on Twitter and called for the issue to be addressed so that victims can be helped at any time.
She added that the victim she was going to help eventually went back to her abuser.
