Elon Musk has taken to his platform X to gloat as social media platforms owned by his competitor Meta suffered an outage.
Amid a worldwide outage of Meta’s sites Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads, the SpaceX and Tesla mogul wrote: “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”
Musk also shared a statement by Andy Stone, the Communications Director at Meta, which was released on X and Musk superimposed photos of penguins with Meta social media app icons on them saluting to a Captain penguin with his X platform icon on it as he continued to gloat over the Meta crisis.
According to Down Detector, the Meta issues started at around 3pm, with both sites and smartphone apps refusing to work. Within minutes, more than 40,000 reports of issues were made to the site for both Instagram and Facebook.
Users flocked to the other working social media site Twitter/X, with one writing: “Facebook and Instagram down? is it the end of the world?”
And a second commented: “FACEBOOK, MESSENGER & INSTAGRAM DOWN???? IS THIS THE END OF THE WORLD?”
