GoFundMe created for the memorial fund of George Floyd has raised over $1.9 million in less than 48 hours

    A GoFundMe campaign to help the family of George Floyd, the black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer forcefully kneeled on his neck during his arrest on Monday, has raised over $1.9 million in less than 48 hours.

    The campaign created by Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, has received more than 72,000 donations totaling to $1.9 million as of Friday afternoon (May 29). The goal was to raise $1.5 million.

    “This fund is established to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings, and to assist our family in the days to come as we continue to seek justice for George,” Philonise states on the donation page.

    Minneapolis police officers, Derek Chauvin, who was filmed kneeling on Floyd’s neck, alongside Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng, have all been fired in connection with his death. But no arrests have been made so far.
