Schools in England hoping to avoid the chaos of this year’s A-level and GCSE results could hold more rigorous mock exams this winter.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson is set to outline the new approach which is part of the Government’s “plan B” to avoid more A-level mayhem in the event of Covid disruption.

Under the plans, A-level students, and possibly GCSE students, would begin their summer exams three weeks later, with schools running mock exams earlier in the year with exam style invigilation, marking and grading, according to The Guardian.

It reports Mr Williamson is expected to announce preparations next week for the 2021 exam season but tensions between the Department for Education (DfE) exams regulator Ofqual have reportedly already caused delays.
