Governor Aminu Masari has fired back at critics of the N6.25 billion Katsina cattle ranch project by President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The Katsina state Governor was reacting to calls for probe of the project by some civil society organisations. The groups had said that it was illegal for President Buhari to dip hands into public coffers to sponsor private businesses without recourse to due process.
However speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop organised by the office of the Special Assistant (SA) to the governor on Livestock and Grazing Reserves in Katsina, Masari stated that there was nothing wrong with such project.
According to him, it began with a peace initiative reached with herders in the forest in 2016. He said the state requested for funds under the stabilisation funds for the project after the agreement was reached.
Masari said 50 percent of the fund required for the project was approved after he personally took the request to President Buhari after the 2019 election. He urged stakeholders, particularly the Fulani leaders to assist in providing security during the project implementation.
