Over two consecutive nights of violent unrest this month, youths in Halton Moor in Leeds attacked police with bricks and fireworks, just over a year after a police van was torched in broad daylight
This is what it’s like to live on a “lawless” and crime-plagued estate that has been dubbed “The Zoo” after years of violence and chaos.
Police are routinely attacked in Halton Moor in Leeds, where derelict houses are boarded up, walls are covered in graffiti and it’s not uncommon to see fires burning at the side of the road.
Residents say police are unable to control yobs and their homes have been repeatedly burgled. The estate is so dangerous taxi and takeaway drivers refuse to go there, LeedsLive reports.
Over two consecutive nights of violent unrest this month, youths attacked police with bricks and fireworks, torched cars and blasted fireworks through the letterbox of one house.
It came just over a year after yobs torched a police van in the middle of the street and hurled bricks and missiles at vans full of riot police, who were forced to retreat for their own safety.
