Kate Winslet revealed during the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that Jack Black gave her a nickname while filming ‘The Holiday’ that some people still use today

Kate Winslet got a fun surprise from Jack Black during a recent podcast interview.

While Winslet, 48, appeared on the Thursday, Sept. 26 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote her new movie Lee, her The Holiday costar Black, 55, sent host Josh Horowitz a video in which he jested about potential sequels to several of Winslet’s hit films.

“Does he still love me? Because I really love him,” Winslet said during the podcast, after host Horowitz revealed he was going to play a personal video message Black sent in for the episode.

“Hello Jack Black for Kate Winslet,” Black said in the video. “Hey, Jack Black here — wanted to know, what’s up with Titanic 2?”

“Also, what’s up with Unbearable Weight of the Spotlight — I can never remember the title, it’s a horrible title but it’s a great movie and I want to know what’s up with the sequel,” he jested, seemingly referencing Winslet’s 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. “And also, most importantly, when’s Holiday 2? The best. You’re the best. How you doing? Anyway, miss you, love you, bye.”

Winslet let out a big laugh as Black’s video message wrapped. “He’s such a t—” she quipped, before revealing that Black first coined her nickname “K Dub” on the set of their 2006 rom-com The Holiday.

“I actually have a little bit of a nickname on set,” she continued. “So my nickname is K Dub, and Jack started that. ‘What up, K Dub?’ and it stuck. Now on set, most people say K Dub. Or on Lee, they said, ‘Shall we ask the Kates? Because there were two of us.”

Winslet and Black costarred with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law in The Holiday, a rom-com that follows an American woman Amanda (Diaz) and British woman Iris (Winslet) who agree to swap homes for a period of time leading up to the Christmas holiday. The pair then meet and fall in love with Black and Law’s characters, named Graham and Miles, over the course of the winter holidays.

While Black jested about the possibility of a sequel in his video, the concept has come up in the past. In December 2022, the movie’s writer-director Nancy Meyers denied rumors that she was working on a sequel, while Winslet shared at the time that the idea had “never come up.”

When Law fielded a question regarding a potential sequel back in June, though, he told E! News he “love(s) the idea” of revisiting those characters.
