President-elect Joe Biden visited his late son Beau’s grave following a Sunday mass service at his local church St Joseph’s in Brandywine, Wilmington, Delaware on the morning after his election win

Emotional pictures show Joe Biden hugging his grandson at his late son Beau’s graveside on his first full day as president-elect.

Following a mammoth vote count lasting over four days, the former Senator was finally announced the winner of a bitterly fought election campaign, ousting incumbent leader Donald Trump.

But the 77-year-old Democrat spent the following day as he does most Sundays, by attending morning mass with his family at St Joseph’s church in Brandywine, Wilmington, Delaware.

Biden arrived a little late for the 10.30am service and left early – as he often does – to ensure Secret Service agents didn’t disrupt other attendees.

There was, however, a huge gathering of press waiting outside for his arrival.
