The Lagos State Government has arraigned one Mrs. Rasheedat Adeleke,50, before a Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting her 29-year-old sales lady in Ikotun area of the State.

Speaking on the arraignment today, July 8, the Counsel from the Directorate of Citizens Rights (DCR), Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Ms. Kafilat Oseni, stated that the accused was arraigned on a two-count charge by the Police in response to a report by the Directorate.

She said the defendant, who owns Super King Supreme Store at Ayodele Ogunkoya Street, Ikotun, had assaulted and inflicted severe injuries on Miss Bukola Akinola by pouring hot water on her body at Moriano Close, Saint Saviour Primary School B/stop, Ijegun Road, Lagos on May 28, 2021.

Ms. Oseni explained that the two-count charge read, “Count One: Rashidat Adeleke and others in May 2021 at No. 15 Adebisi Awolola, Ikotun, Lagos did conspire together to commit a felony contrary to section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015; Count two: the defendant and others at large unlawfully assaulted one Bukola Akinola by beating and pouring hot water on her contrary to section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015”.

She noted that the absence of the defendant in Court on Thursday, 24th of June, 2021, resulted in the arraignment of her 70-year-old surety, Mr. Awoniyi Fatoki, who was earlier detained at CCID, Panti, due to the defendant’s absence in court.

The Counsel of the DCR, however, disclosed that with the appearance of Rashidat Adeleke at the recent Court sitting, Magistrate Omobola A. Salau of Yaba Magistrate Court adjourned the commencement of the trial to Monday, 2nd of August, 2021.
