Margaret Qualley is taking care of herself!

On Thursday, June 20, the actress, 29, attended the New York City premiere of her new movie Kinds of Kindness and opened up about its theme of relinquishing control — and how she applies that to her own life.

“That’s the whole thing, right? I think – I mean the whole thing of life, too, we don’t have very much control,” Qualley told reporters at the Museum of Modern Art.

“We’re always trying to reckon with it,” she added. “I’m always just trying to be like, ‘Okay,’ and on my car rides home after a day of work are just me trying to be nice to myself because you can’t do anything now.”

Qualley, who plays the role of Vivian in Kinds of Kindness dressed in a long sleeveless white gown at the premiere, which was also attended by director Yorgos Lanthimos and costars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, Joe Alwyn, Hunter Schafer, Hong Chau and Mamoudou Athie.

Kinds of Kindness features three anthological stories in which the actors portray different characters in storylines that take place in and around New Orleans.

An official synopsis for the movie reads that the stories follow “a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing at sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”

The movie is the third feature film collaboration between Stone, 35, and filmmaker Lanthimos, 50, after Poor Things and 2018’s The Favourite. The pair also made a short film together in 2022 titled Bleat.

Dafoe, 68, and Qualley also appeared in Poor Things, which won four Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards back in March; Alwyn, 33, also costarred with Stone in The Favourite.

Kinds of Kindness is in theaters June 21.
