The pandemic is set to add more than £100 to gas and electricity bills this winter, as half a million households are forced to work from home – so how can you save on your heating bills? Martin Lewis explains
Temperatures have fallen in large parts of the country prompting many households to turn up their central heating – but how can you save money in the process?
It might seem obvious, but turning the heating down, even by just 1 degree, can help cut bills by up to 10%.
In fact, experts recommend an average temperature of between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius during the winter months.
Other money-saving tips include using draught excluders to block out pesky chills and insulating pipes to avoid them freezing over when the temperatures turn icy.
But how long should you keep your heating on and is it actually cheaper to leave it on a low temperature all day?
According to experts at the Energy Saving Trust, the idea that it’s cheaper to leave the heating on low all day is a myth.
