Dr Sanjay Gupta has started a GoFundMe page for the father-of-four, 44, and already it has raised an incredible £30,000 – some £20,000 over its original target

Colleagues fear the locum doctor, whose contract was due to run out next month, may not have his work visa renewed.

York medic Dr Sanjay Gupta started a GoFundMe page for the married dad whose youngest child is just four years old.

Already it has topped £30,000 – some £20,000 more than what he set out to raise.

Egypt-born, Dr Basem Enany, 44, a consultant cardiologist, is a “devoted husband” who is in intensive care and on a ventilator fighting the “toughest battle of his life”.

He is said to be in a ‘stable but critical’ condition in another hospital in Yorkshire.
