Republican Pence was criticised by viewers of the debate on Wednesday for following Donald Trump’s example by interrupting his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, while playing fast and loose with the truth
US Vice President Mike Pence has been slammed by viewers of the vice presidential debate for repeating ‘lies’ and consistently ignoring the rules.
The incumbent VP to Donald Trump followed in the Republican leader’s example as he interrupted Democratic opponent Kamala Harris and often opted to ignore the set topics, during tonight’s 90 minute clash.
At one stage, Joe Biden’s running mate – the first mixed race woman on a major election ticket – told Pence: “If you don’t mind letting me finish then we will have a conversation.”
The debate covered a wide range of subjects from the racial tensions and protests following the death of George Floyd to health care, tax reform and climate change.
On coronavirus, Harris accused the Trump administration of a “cover up” in its handling of the pandemic which has left more than 210,000 Americans dead and the president under fire for not taking it seriously enough.
“Here’s the thing, on January 28th, the vice president and the president were informed about the nature of this pandemic,” she said. “They knew and they covered it up. The president said it was a hoax.”
