The family of missing British teen Jay Slater have released an emotional new statement to mark one month since he went missing on Tenerife.

A search and rescue operation was triggered by Spanish police after Jay, 19, from Lancashire went missing on June 17 in the remote northwest of the island and his family quickly travelled out to help find him.

Jay partied at a nightclub in the south of Tenerife before leaving with two men and staying with them at an Airbnb in Masca. He left the accommodation and after missing a bus told a friend that he was going to try and walk back to where he had been staying in the south – a trek that would take about 11 hours – before his battery went dead. Nothing has been seen or heard of him since.

On Sunday afternoon, Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan released a new statement on the search for his missing son. She said: “As we approach 4 weeks of our beautiful Jay’s disappearance, we cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family. Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him.

“This month will mark the end of his three year apprenticeship with the world at his feet. He is loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends.

‌”As a family we would like to thank the public for their continued support and well wishes. We would also like to thank LBT Global, the British Embassy and the Police who are doing all they can to support us.Jay’s mum Debbie has been on Tenerife looking for him since he went missing
